This week, my last summer Step team finished their project and returned to the UK. During their time here I did my tour guide act, and took them to Panajachel - they arrived to a fantastic view over Lake Atitlan, but it rained most of the time after that!
During their 3 weeks here, the team were working alongside a project offering educational support to children who are at risk of dropping out of school, or children and young people who never had the opportunity to attend school. Some have to work, due economic needs, or their parents never had an education either. The team were able to help out with their usual classes as well as teach some English.
The project also included an agricultural aspect of it, helping some local families in extreme poverty to start rearing chickens, or cultivate their own vegetables. They also accompanied the pastor in visiting local families. Although they were stretched in lots of different directions over their time, they were able to see lots of different aspects of the community, really seeing the need for the organisation that prioritises education for all.
