Knowing

So a while back I wrote about not knowing the affect of my work in the girls prison.
When the girls leave the prison, we don´t know what happens to them (unless they end up back there again). Not knowing is Ok  - it´s good even- as it gives you the freedom to imagine that they´re doing alright and moving forward with their lives.

Then yesterday I found out that one of the girls that I got to know when I first started visiting -and who was released a while back, was killed recently and her body found in pieces.

It´s a stark reminder of the brutal reality that some of the girls live in. It makes me sad. I want it to inspire me more in how I share with the girls. But at the moment it just makes me sad.

There is so much to celebrate in the prison. I feel very priveleged to be involved with the girls and lately I´ve been really encouraged that some of them have talked to us about how God is changing them. But the reality of what they have come from  - and for many of them, what they will return to, is always present.
